Luxurious style and elegance at à la Ritz-Carlton can be yours to bring home. If you don't want that luxury feeling from vacation time to end, follow these easy instructions to bring the decor into your personal, everyday life.
1. Tidy up your bedroom. With your post-vacation energy, set to and take out everything in your bedroom that can be moved. Only some of it will ever go back in. Clean well.
2. Consider the elements of a Ritz-Carlton style room:
* Polished hardwood flooring
* Oriental rugs or high-quality, simple rugs
* Elegant pieces of furniture, such as a deep-toned wooden dresser
* Matching bedside tables with delicate lamps; try leadlight lamps or lamps with bone china bases (you can get these made at your local lighting store with a good bone china vase find)
* A luxurious club chair or a pair if you have room
* Matching prints - floral, horses-a-hunting, sea vistas - anything suggestive of old wealth and vacation time is fine- just make sure to mat and frame them properly to avoid looking cheap.
* Electronic equipment that is well hidden but easily accessible - cloak that plasma TV in an armoire.
* Writing desk and chair
* Mini bar fridge (optional)
* Neutral walls (beige, cream, white, off-white)
3. Choose sumptuous bed linens. If you don't already own it, go out and spend a day buying it:
* Indulge in a high thread count cotton sheet set, at least 200 count. It will be worth the cost when you discover that the rich softness of these sheets induce nights of magnificent sleep.
* Bolster cushions, square pillows, European pillows, and roll pillows. Be guided by elegance, good taste and what pleases you most.
* Purchase a duvet and duvet cover as fluffy and large as you can afford. This is the most important part of your bed, as it increases comfort and is seen by others most often. Down comforters work well for this, as do ones with down substitute- its main difference is warmth. Substitute comforters work very well for those with allergies.
4. Assess the things you took out of your room in the clean-up. Following the checklist above, make decisions about what your think carries that "hotel room character". What looks chic, elegant and simple all at once? Keep those items. All your knick-knacks must be sorted too - either they fit the theme, or they need to have storage space to hide them from view.
5. Try to avoid eclectic, clashing styles. Choose neutral color themes - the creams, bones, beiges, golds etc. are best choices and you can spruce these up with maroon, deep blues or deep greens.
6. Treat your room to weekly fresh flowers.
Tips
* Purchase terry bed robes - ooh, such luxury to walk around in after you bath or shower. Don't forget slippers. Often you can purchase these items before you leave your stay at the Ritz-Carlton.
* Dash in early evening and turn your bed down. Leave a rolled up magazine and mint on the pillow for a sweet surprise later at night when you return.
* Recycle the items you have decided to no longer keep after your bedroom revamp.
*In place of prints, try having prints made up of your real stay in the Ritz-Carlton; have them framed and hang them around your room.
* Cotton and silk are the best sheet and bed linen fabrics. Do not skimp on these; a lot of your life is spent surrounded by them.

Follow these tips if you can and in no time you will have a beautiful abode that will be an inviting place for one and all.
1-Paint the walls. Giving your walls a new splash of color completely changes the appearance of your home. Walls look the best when they are painted in neutral shades like beige, off white, peach, light blue etc. These colors are not only pleasant to the eyes but they also are most suited to whatever color furniture or accessories you might have in the room. One new trend is painting one of the walls of the room a bright color and arranging some showpiece or painting on that wall.
2-Change the upholstery. By changing the cushion covers and the general upholstery of the room, the whole area gets a totally new look. You can mix and match with different colors, patterns, textures to do up your furniture covers as well as curtains. Take care to see that you have a common theme running between all your upholstery so that the colors do not clash or hurt the eye. Curtains have a variety of new forms in which they can be stitched and displayed. The room gets a very rich look if the fabric that you use is rich and comfortable. Make sure that you do not bother about the cost so much as this can be considered a one time investment. Good furnishing is a must for a well decorated room.
3-Bring plants in. Any room that has plants in it instantly livens up the atmosphere of that place. Plants are not only soothing to the eye but they also have great value in terms of improving the air in the room. Its not important that you have big or small plants. These days we even have miniature forests in large bowls where a group of three of four bonzai plants are grown replete with stones and soil. These arrangements can be found in the local nursery for as low as three or four hundred bucks. Plant flowers near the window sill to improve the beauty of the windowsills.
4-Spread dhurries around. Nowadays Indian dhurries are in fashion not only in India but also all over the world. These rugs in bright Indian colors energise and change the look of the floor completely. Make sure that the rugs are laid in places where they are instant noticeable. As opposed to expensive carpeting ,rugs are a great way to break the monotony of the floors. The brighter they are, the better they look. They are available in an variety of shapes like square, oblong and so on.
5-Frame them. Paintings on the wall as well as pictures instantly add elegance quotient to your room. You can frame landscapes, oil paintings, pictures or anything that you want to display. A good light fixture behind the painting gives a very good focus on the painting and improves the look. You can choose frames in wood with exotic colors and designs on them. The frame is a very important tool for adding to the beauty of the painting.
6-Arrange a special corner. Have a special corner in the room that has a collection of all your favorite collectibles like potpourri, candles, trinkets, showpieces, photos of your loved ones etc. Having all these items at one place lets the visitor place their total attention to these items at one go. Make sure that the items are displayed well with some special light fixtures for lighting.
7-Keep it neat and fragrant. Last but not the least always keep your rooms neat, clean and fragrant. No matter how much you decorate and spend on your house, it is fruitless if the house is not maintained well.

* Art Deco Furniture Art Deco furniture is streamlined in design. It is modern and sleek but comfortable. Many designs of furniture are made with a flat bent chrome base that gives the piece a rocking effect. Wood pieces are highly lacquered in black. Decorative black lacquered panels are used as room screens. Highly lacquered wood frames are upholstered in lustrous white leather. A stepped-up arm is typical. Woods used include exotic Brazilian rosewood, ebony, birds-eye maple, and light maple veneers. Upholstery is typically of velour, giving the stark form comfort and a sensuous hand.
* Colors for Art Deco Interiors Because Art Deco interiors are minimalist, colors are used sparingly. Most color schemes include black, combining green and black, red and black and white and black. Accents are of chrome and gold. Pale blue or dove grey provides a softening effect.
* Flooring for Art Deco Rooms Classic white or black marble flooring is typical in an Art Deco interior. Checkered tiles of black and white squares are common. Rugs are placed over the sleek flooring, commonly brown, black or dove gray with serpentine swirls or period geometric flowers adding design.
* Art Deco Lighting Lighting in Art Deco interiors include ceiling lights, floor lamps, table lamps and wall sconces. Most styles are streamlined in design. Bronze and glass are used extensively incorporating flowers and geometric shapes in the design. Floor lamps include tall torchieres in wrought iron or chrome with hand blown glass shades. Some are also of black wrought iron. Table lamps of bright nickel with white, clear, frosted, or colorful glass shades are common. Wall sconces can be bronze, aluminum, steel, or silver plated base metal with opaque white or colorful glass shades.
* Textures in Art Deco Interiors Most surfaces are sleek and clean, lacking texture. Velour is used extensively in upholstered furniture and leather gives a simple sleek look on surfaces. Wood veneers add depth to wood pieces and add design to otherwise plain pieces.
* Accessories Accent Art Deco Design Form is important in Art Deco interiors. Mirrors made of nickel, chrome, or silver are decorated with motifs of deer, peacocks, roses, and geometric shapes. Bronze sculptures are sleek covered with colored or pearl beads. Desk sets of pen and pencil on a base are streamlined in design. Door handles and candlesticks molded of nickel, chrome, or silver have woodsy or chevron shapes. Frosted glass or black and white marble are used for vases. Inlay is common and adds color and design. Cameo glass vases show under layers of color exposed by etching away top layers of white or clear glass.
Art Deco style was modern for its time and many elements of the style carry over to design elements of later eras.
